The best feature of Google+? The search!

Search for a spark in your life and keep it with you...

Welcome to Google+, a world of various passions:

Are you an aspiring photographer, enthusiastic kayaker, artist, designer, writer, diver or golfer, looking for inspiring authors or musicians, fascinated by zombies? Looking for business contacts or just pure pleasure or knowledge?

Fret no more, for in Google+ you’ll find lots of people with the same zeal by using lists, search and shared circles.
Adding people or pages with the same interests adds to the Google+ experience: No need to be friends with anyone you add. Following someone on G+ can be like a one way street.

How can I search for a certain topic or individuals with the same tastes?

You can use the filters at the top of your search stream to view just the type of content you want to see.

Choose from among:

- Everything, People and Pages, Communities, Google+ posts, Hangouts or Events.

You can narrow down the search by using the next drop-down menu:
- From everyone, From your circles, From you or To you. Or by location.

After choosing and clicking on the filter, you can furthermore sort your search stream according to relevance or timeliness:
- Most recent or Best of.

You can also search by using hashtags and save those searches:

Here're a few good ones to start with: #Plushelp #Googleplustips #Hangouts  and if you wish to get in the weekend mood, check out the #friday stream. For Saturdays there's the #Caturday...  :-)

To save one of your Google+ searches, click Save at the top of the page.

Doing so will save this stream so that it’s instantly accessible from the side column in the Explore tab and also on Home page, at the end of the drop down menu with all your circles. This makes it easy to click on those Google+ searches that you perform often.

You can post from a keyword stream!

An example of a saved search:

If you have recently bought a new phone and become fascinated with, let’s say ‘Android’, then you can search once for ‘android’, save it as an interest, then click the text ‘android’ in the side column whenever you want to see the latest from Google+ search as a stream: Business Pages, posts or web content. Knitting, scuba diving, blogging... Whatever makes you tick!

Using sentences like "shared a circle with you" and saving that, you'll see all the publicly shared circles from everyone, or from your circles only.

Circlecount.com is a good place to find new people sorted by sharers:  When you share a circle, copy the URL of the post by clicking on the time stamp and add it to the page.

And here you can look for your interests or topics in a Google spreadsheet:  Google+ shared circles project from Aquarists to zoologists!

Search inside a Community

With the Communities came the search possibility inside all of them.

Before asking a question from the Community members it might be a good idea to search first for the keyword or sentence.

Now the same questions are being posted every day and before we get a Frequently Asked Questions or FAQ -category inside the Communities, answering the same old same old is tiresome.

Here is an example:

People keep asking why their posts to Communities show up on their profile.
Here is a search that would help in getting answers:

"Posts in communities show in my stream"

This has been answered in many ways with a lot of opinions and speculations, too.

The answer actually is - Because Google made it so.
Read more about it in the Google+ Communities Help page FAQ

Bonus tip:

Find the Plusone (+1) recommendations from your circles in Google+ search

You can replace the Chromebook with another search term:
https://plus.google.com/plusones/search/Chromebook

I think this G+ search feature is still in progress, but interesting nevertheless.

Enjoy searching for your passions!
